The past couple months ‘Manyplaces else’…
Friday, January 30th, 2009It’s been a while since I wrote about Someplace Else… I was quite busy promoting it and showing it in November in New York @ The Vilcek Foundation! It went superbly and we had almost full house… and many nice questions at the Q&A. The people at the Vilcek Foundation were so nice and welcoming to me, it was a wonderful experience!
You can find more pristine pictures from the Vilcek experience at www.vilcek.org/#/events/photos/ (Click on American Immigrant Filmmakers on Profile)
Then we showed the film back in Chicago for a special screening at Facets Cinematheque mid-december 2008 thanks to the generous support of Independent Feature Project, IFP Chicago ( www.ifpchicago.org )! It was yet another great adventure… and the brave people who showed up that evening (as it was chilling out there, somewhere around 10F/-10C) left with a good experience hopefully in their minds… we had an extended Q&A in the presence of then IFP interim executive director Lynn Steadman. At one point during the Q&A, it was really strange to have someone in the audience comment on my film as if he was the person who made the film, describing the many intents and purposes of the film at different parts of the movie and how he could feel the many subtleties of it… I was humbled by it. Also people asked us when we’d get the DVDs of the film out… more to come not too far away hopefully.
Now, after a month of hibernation (actually I’ve been very busy making a music video in Paris for EMI/Warner/Capitol records and a super talented French musician Chat ( www.lamusiquedechat.com )… and I’m pleased to annouce that it should be out soon ;-)!!! Can’t wait to share it all with you guys), welll after this past month busy with something else, I’m back to promoting the film on its circuit journey. We’re actually very pleased to showcase the film at a non-film related event, a music showcase in the center of France, a region called Auvergne, for the rock music fest Hibernarock 2009!!! It’s a two week event occuring every year celebrating the many influences and roots of rock music. This year, they are focusing on the roots of rock music and its presence in the American culture throughout the 20th century. So SOMEPLACE ELSE was an excellent fit for the festival. And I’m invited to the Q&A post-screening ;-).
Can’t wait to hear what the French have to say about the film! We’ve shown the film and had moderated Q&A’s in the US mainly, and so it’s always great to get impressions from people who are not familiar with the places and languages and codes of the country and people depicted. I’ll let you know more about it after the screening.
So watch out and thank you for your continued support! It’s thanks to you that we are continuing this journey…
Love
Kai
